Backing, as we understand it, is the deliberate direction of attention and resources toward work that merits them. It may take the form of purchasing a book, supporting a podcast, subscribing to a creator, acquiring a game, recommending an independent publisher, or funding a carefully considered campaign. The medium is secondary to the standard.

We examine literary and genre fiction, tabletop role-playing games and related design, video games of serious ambition, podcasts and long-form audio, independent journalism and essay, visual art and illustration, and crowdfunding projects or independent enterprises that demonstrate craft and coherence.

Our interest is in work that rewards close attention, regardless of commercial category.

Rightbacker is rooted in traditional Western values—individualism, liberty, merit, and the pursuit of excellence. These commitments inform judgment; they do not replace it. Shared convictions cannot excuse inferior execution, and genuine excellence in thought or making can earn recognition even where substantial differences of outlook exist.
